This past Saturday we attended the Gates Foundation’s Teen Action Fair 2017. It was an incredible showing of teen ingenuity, passion, and down right talent. With two exciting live performances from Archers Beats and Northwest Tap Connection to kick off the morning, the tone was set. And Metiza was lucky enough to be in the middle of it.
After the performances, we got a chance to mingle and connect with various organizations and their teen advocates. Here are some of the highlights:
Annika and Risa of Sustainability Ambassadors – These two girls are working to save our environment through sustainable initiatives that are community based. If you’d like to learn more or get involved, they recommended visiting Sustainbility Ambassadors here.
Cat of Take KnowledGE – Cat, her sister, and her mom are all dedicated to getting more girls involved in STEM at a middle school age. Take KnowledGE is an after-school program that makes coding, problem solving, and robot making fun and social. The hope being that more girls pursue computer science since they have enjoyed participating since their early teens.
Eva and Iman of Sex and Pizza Club – These two ladies draw their inspiration from Peggy Orenstein’s book Girls & Sex and famous Ted Talk about young women and their sexual health. They are based out of Lakeside High School, where they meet at lunch, eat pizza, and talk about everything sex. We’re excited to hear more from them!
Leija, Bella, Camilla and Samuelle, Teen Action Youth Ambassadors – These four ladies all represented different organizations participating at Teen Action, but also found time to volunteer their time to facilitate and promote the fair itself. If you’d like to get more involved in this amazing event they are great resources for how to get involved or how to become an ambassador in 2018.
Thank you to the Gate’s Foundation for having us, we’ll see you next year!
