finishing touches

With prom right around the corner, it’s important to start thinking about how to finish your outfit. Whether it be makeup, hair, shoes, or jewelry you are struggling with, I got your back. Here are some totally #WorthIt accessories to complete your perfect prom look.

That Highlighter Life: Makeup

For some people, prom is the only night of the year they go full out glam with their makeup. But what’s a girl to do when she doesn’t have those Insta-worthy makeup skills? If you are looking to get your makeup professionally done, head over to Sephora!

They have two options available: A 15-minute mini makeover or a 45-minute Custom Makeup Application (CMA). Go ahead and sign up to be a Beauty Insider at Sephora first, and then these two makeovers are at your disposal.

The Mini Makeover is free to Beauty Insiders and will have the makeup artist work on one specific area of a makeup look. This option is perfect for people who are pretty good at doing their own makeup but just really can’t perfect that smoky eye, the flawless red lip, or want to wear a fancy long-wear foundation on prom night.

A Custom Makeup Application lasts 45 minutes and has the makeup artist completing a full makeup look on a Beauty Insider. However, the customer is required to purchase at least $50 worth of Sephora products after the makeover.

The awesome thing is, you can buy products you were going to buy anyway! Need to repurchase foundation or mascara? Do it on your prom day and get a makeover out of it! If you’re planning on heading over to Sephora, be sure to call as soon as you can to schedule your makeover to ensure you  get an appointment during busy prom season.

Updo’s and High Ponies: Get Your Hair Did

Hair is hard. I’ll be the first to say that I am terrible with my own hair. I can curl it (kind of), I can straighten it, and I can do a mediocre braid. But prom is the day of up-dos and fabulous hair, so here are a few ways to spice up your look. If you have your heart set on an up-do, try checking out a student salon near you. These students do an amazing job for an extremely discounted price since they are still in school. They need experience, and you need a prom do – it’s a win-win.

If you would prefer to do your own hair, a cute pin or accessory can really pull the look together. For my senior prom, I glued small fake flowers onto bobby pins and tucked them in a crown braid I had my best friend’s little sister do for me. Since I am so bad at hair, I had to get really creative. There are endless ways to wear your hair and look effortlessly chic on your prom night. Try looking for hair accessories on Modcloth, ASOS, Forever 21, and Free People. Here are some favorites from those sites!

SJP Knows the Truth: It’s All About The Shoes

Now when it comes to prom shoes, there’s an age-old question that must be answered – heels or flats? Heels look fancy and are fun to rock with a gorgeous gown, but flats are just so comfortable! I ended up wearing flats to every prom I went to, but I sincerely applaud any girl who can strut her stuff all night in heels (you are my hero). To avoid high prices for shoes you might end up just wearing for one night check out Forever 21, ASOS, DSW, and even Target.

Bring On The Bling: Jewelry

I was never one to stack jewelry for a special occasion, but boy was I jealous of the girls that could pull it off. Prom is really an event to just go all out. Be 100% you and wear exactly what you want. So if jewelry is your jam, take a look at American Eagle, Free People, Forever 21, and H&M. They have awesome affordable pieces you can wear again and again after prom. Here are a few items I liked from each website.
