It’s safe to say that if you’ve listened to pop music at all in the past four years, you know who Lorde is. She recently announced the upcoming release of her album, Melodrama, along with the single, ‘Green Light‘. But something you may not know about her is that she performed ‘All Apologies‘ with Nirvana, three years ago at the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I remember when this video came out and I watched it ad naseum. One, because I love the song, and two, because it was at a time when I was obsessed with all things Lorde. Before you watch this, all I ask that you watch the original with Kurt Cobain (if you haven’t heard it before) so you can fully appreciate how much Lorde nailed it.
If you’re thinking, “I’m not really into Nirvana/I don’t like Kurt’s voice,” Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged version from 1993 has 4 million views, and I think we can all agree any video with over a million views is worth watching. The three remaining members of Nirvana, Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl, and Pat Smear, performed with a lot of amazing women that night, including Joan Jett, St. Vincent, and Kim Gordon – three very important female pioneers in music. Each collaboration featured some badass women, and we think Kurt would approve.
