Although the first day of summer isn’t officially here yet, Starbucks has rung in the official summer season with a brand new season-inspired line of drinks, food and merchandise. As the Unofficial Official Metiza Barista™️, I thought I’d cue you in on everything that was released and what you should try and what you should pass on.
So let’s dive right into the summer promotions!
While Starbucks is not bringing back the much-loved Summer S’mores Frappuccino, they did introduce three new summertime Frappuccinos.
They are part of the “Luxe Life” promotion and are advertised as rich, velvety and creamy, all of which is completely true.
In order below there is the Triple Mocha Frappuccino, the Serious Strawberry Frappuccino and the Ultra Caramel Frappuccino.
The Triple Mocha is the traditional Mocha Frappuccino with Cold Brew Whipped Cream on the bottom and the top, drenched in a new dark mocha syrup. As for the Ultra Caramel, the regular caramel syrup dulls in comparison to the ultra caramel sauce that we use to create it. Just like the Triple Mocha Frappuccino, it also gets Cold Brew Whipped Cream on the bottom and top, which is drenched int he ultra caramel sauce.
As for the Serious Strawberry Frappuccino, Starbucks reinvented their strawberry puree so it is quite a bit sweeter, more on the dessert side of strawberry rather than a strawberry smoothie. The puree is poured and both the top and the bottom of the Frappuccino, which is made up of an herbal strawberry tea and milk.
These sweet treats won’t spare you on the calories, but the oh-so-delectable flavors are simply irresistible. As a barista, I can admit that I hate making Frappuccinos, but I won’t lie, if there is a little bit left over I’ll steal a sip or two.
They also introduced the new line of foamy cold drinks, called “Cold Royale.”
These include the Cascara Cold Foam Cold Brew and the Cold Foam Cappuccino.
The Cascara Cold Foam Cold Brew prominently features Starbucks Nariño 70 Cold Brew mixed with vanilla syrup. The cold foam is made from either Nonfat or Almond milk in a blender with Cascara syrup. The Cold Brew is topped with the Cascara Cold foam and is sprinkled with Cascara sprinkles in a line down the cup. It is served with a lid that requires no straw so that you can taste the foam in every sip!
The Cold Foam Cappuccino is like an iced latte in the fact that it comes with espresso and milk over ice, with just a plain cold foam poured over top.
For me, I think that the Cascara Cold Foam is totally worth the hype. I loved the Cascara Latte last year and was so excited when we got this syrup back in our shipments! As for the cappuccino, I prefer a pump or two of syrup in my coffee, and the cappuccino is too bitter for me.
For a fun twist ask for vanilla bean powder in your cold foam instead of Cascara syrup. It might be an up-charge, but it is absolutely delicious.
For the end of the new drinks, Starbucks also released a Mango Dragonfruit Refresher.
— Starbucks Coffee (@Starbucks) June 19, 2018
The juice itself is delectable and had sure hints of mango hiding behind the dragonfruit. The juice is a light yellow-ish color which turns pink when the freeze dried dragonfruit pieces are added and shook up with the juice. The drink is totally Instagram-able and lovely with lemonade or white tea. For me, its a little too sweet but it seems as if most people like it!
Remember, if you’re ever unsure of whether or not you’ll like something ask for two straws for you and a friend to share or just grab a tall!
Starbucks also released some new food and to be honest, it really steals the show.
I will just start with my favorite because every day I have off I crave the heck out of it. It is a brand new Summer Berry Swirl Croissant.
The flakey and buttery pastry is filled with a blackberry, raspberry and strawberry jelly and is NOT to be missed. The first day we released these, I snuck two into the back because they are just so addicting! Be sure to ask for it warmed to experience it at its best.
Starbucks has also released two new cookies for your sweet tooth.
The first is a Confetti Sugar Cookie. Half of it is covered in frosting and fun rainbow sprinkles. I am not a fan of sugar cookies, but this one has a lemony after taste which is delicious.
The other cookie however is kind of a mess on purpose. The Kitchen Sink Cookie has an Oreo cookie look-a-like, a pecan and a pretzel adorned on top of it. For me, it is too much going on in one cookie. But I will say that the cookie is soft and chewy which is ideal for any cookie.
For more of a savory bite to snack on, you can try the brand new Sous Vide Chicken Chorizo Egg Bites.
I am a vegetarian so I haven’t tried these, but they seem to smell pretty good and my coworkers seem to enjoy them. They are made up of cage free eggs, which include chicken chorizo, chipotle salsa, and cotija cheese all topped with crispy tortilla pieces.
I will say the chorizo is a little bit off-putting as it does look like cut up hot dog bits. But again, meat is definitely not my thing so take that as you will.
Finally, ending on a sweet note, Starbucks released a new flavored and designed cake pop, called the Frosted Donut Cake Pop.
The cake pop is larger than normal cake pops and tastes exactly like a donut. The decoration is cute and the frosted colors come in both white and pink.
The summer releases are fun, delicious and totally summer-filled! Share your favorite new product with the Metiza Twitter or Instagram (@MetizaMag)!
