Life Lessons I Learned From Traveling

Wanderlust is more than passport stamps and airports, it's growth for your heart and soul

On my recent trip away from home I had a mind shift in how I view my life and daily routine. It’s interesting what travel can teach you about yourself and about life. This is what I learned and am still learning…

Being Present

It’s crazy how things seem to slow down while you are in a new place and even so after when you return back home. You start to notice little details that maybe you’ve missed before. I am learning that tomorrow is not promised and this moment right here won’t last forever so I might as well enjoy it.

“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm, and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” – Jawaharial Nehru

I love living on Miami Beach but it was nice to get away and experience nature and whole different setting, a different change on pace. I didn’t realize how noisy Miami was lol where I stayed in Austin was so quiet and peaceful, it was nice.

This trip really made me open my eyes and appreciate where I live. So many people would love to the beach and to be honest sometimes I take it for granted. While I know I won’t be living here forever and am looking for a much slower-paced way of life (out in the country is the dream). I have to enjoy this moment because it will be gone. With this being said….

Trying New Places

I am learning to try new things, new places. I want to experience living on the beach fully and don’t want to look back and feel like I rushed it or didn’t enjoy it wholeheartedly so while I sit and wait for my next move I’m determined to explore and adventure where I live now.

“To Travel is to Live” – Hans Christian Andersen

Over the weekend I did just this. I googled ‘best coffee shops near me’. This is something I normally do when I’m in another city exploring. How weird that I’ve never done this for my area for where I lived. And to my surprise I discovered a coffee shop that has amazing coffee and croissants. I can’t believe this place was right under my nose the whole time!

There’s no need to worry

Every time I travel I notice how much we worry about things that haven’t happened yet. We don’t realize is that things can change in an instant. What we are worrying about now will no longer be a worry a year from now or even a few short months from now.

Think about it…can you recall something you were worried or upset about a few months ago? Knowing this can bring us peace in knowing that our worries and fears are temporary and things will work out for us just as it needs to. Travel teaches us how small we are in this world and how much we draw importance to wrong things that ultimately can make us unhappy and flustered.

“Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” -Gustav Flaubert

Travels break the chains keeping you from moving

Have you ever felt like you were stuck? I know I have! Whether you feel like you are tied down to your job, relationships, your environment whatever it is getting away helps break the chains that keep you from moving. Traveling makes you feel free and makes your soul happy.
