If there was a single reason for pimples to pop up, it would be much simpler for us to get rid of them. But, of course that’s certainly not the case. There are various contributing factors that can lead to breakouts. Let’s tackle the biology first, then see what we can do to get rid of this unfortunate situation asap. Who’s with me?
How do pimples come into being anyway? Thanks a lot biology.
One day you wake up from your sweet-sweet dreams to find a pimple on your cheeks. Weirdly, it doesn’t happen overnight. One cause is when the sebaceous glands in the skin begin to produce too much sebum, or oil. You may think getting rid of oil will solve the issue but in fact, it’s an oil necessary for lubrication and maintenance of the pH level of the skin. Another two factors responsible for creating this unfortunate mess are dead skin cells getting trapped in the skin’s hair follicles, and a buildup of bacteria.
When the hair follicles get clogged with excessive sebum and dead skin cells, it first turns into blackheads or whiteheads. When these become infected beneath the surface of the skin, a cyst is developed. If this spreads on top of the skin a pimple comes into being. So, again, it’s not something that happens overnight. A regular skin care is mandatory to avoid such situation.
Cinnamon & honey to the rescue.
To treat infection from the root cause, natural remedies and chemical treatments can be used. Depending on the severity of your case, give the DIY home remedy a shot. However if you are struggling with a serious case of acne, a dermatologist is your best bet always. And do not, repeat, do NOT pick at your face. Tempting though it may be, it will increase infection leading to scarring. That’s forever fam.
A cinnamon honey face mask has been one of the most praised effective treatments.
Cinnamon – It is basically an aromatic spice extensively used for cooking purposes. But, with its anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties, it’s known to reduce inflammation, redness, and even bacterial infection. Who knew? It aides in the prevention of blemishes, while simultaneously helping to dry out the existing ones. This powerful ingredient works on the surface of the skin, but also stimulates circulation. It exfoliates and revitalizes the skin by drawing blood, oxygen, and nutrients to the surface of the skin.
Honey – Honey has been known as one of the best natural moisturizing agents; an anti-fungal, and antibacterial ingredient. Thus, making it a perfect solution to cure all types of acne. It basically fights infection and nourishes the skin without irritating it.
My cinnamon honey face mask recipe, let’s do this!
The classic cinnamon honey face mask can be typically made from just these two ingredients. You likely have them in your pantry, waiting patiently for your morning toast. Sacrifice that once a week for your face and you are on your way to clear skin!
Since cinnamon is quite powerful, it can be occasionally irritating to the sensitive skin. Do a patch test before applying the mixture on the face.
Mix 3 tablespoons of cinnamon and 2 tablespoons of honey in a small bowl forming a smooth paste. Either apply it with the help of your fingers or use a brush. Leave the mixture on for at least 20 minutes and then rinse off with lukewarm water. Do splash a little cold water at the end to close the pores. Though, remember to remove any makeup, sunscreen, or even moisturizer before applying the mask! Another option is to just dab it on the zit and leave it overnight. It will help to speed up the healing process.
Truth be told, nothing is going to work wonders in just a week. Skin issues are SO frustrating. Patience will help, stay super hydrated too. Check out our expert Dr. Heather Rogers’ advice on how to take great care of your skin as well.
