Do You Know What Your Dreams Actually Mean?

Maybe it's not too much late night pizza and these weird images really mean something after all?

Have you had a strange dream lately and want to know what it means? Susan Baragia, a licensed social worker and professional dream worker for more than 16 years describes dreams as a universal language, creating often elaborate images out of emotional concepts. Even though I don’t consider myself to be superstitious, I do believe that God, the universe, or some higher power is trying to tell me something through my dreams.

Dreams are often most profound when they seem the most crazy. ~Sigmund Freud

Recently, I’ve had the craziest dreams about me dying or being chased. Sometimes it’s consistent and stays within the same theme and sometimes it involves other people. I’ve always had a feeling that it wasn’t literal and maybe it meant something was about to change.

what dreams actually mean

And so it did…

I had praying and asking the universe for a change at my job. And it actually happened the day after I had this crazy dream. It was a big change and I feel relieved that I have clarity over the situation and my dream. As I looked into this topic I found it would be beneficial to share this with you as it may provide some clarity and relief to what you’re dreaming about. Here are a few common dreams and what they mean:

Being chased

This is said to be the most common and relates to anxiety. This could be due to something we may be avoiding or not addressing that requires our attention.

Often, the reason for these dreams comes not from the fear of actually being chased, but rather what we’re running from.~DreamsCloud

Although this can be perceived as negative it usually means that a dramatic change will take place for the person having the dream.

Whether, its a boat, car, airplane etc. the vehicles in our dreams reflect the path we are taking in life and how we perceive this path and the control we have over it. This is a good one because it can really highlight what we need to work on or help us visualize getting to our desired destination.

This one is a common one for me also. As different people enter your dream, it supposedly means that it is a reflection of the different aspects of ourselves. Dreaming about specific people may mean there are some existing relationships that need to be worked on or it can relate to different characteristics of ourselves that need to be developed.

This one is kind of scary. This happens when the body is encountering a form of paralysis during dreaming, which prevents it from physically performing the actions occurring in their dreams, therefore dreaming about paralysis frequently represents the overlap between the REM stage and waking stage of sleep. Dreaming about paralysis can also indicate that the dreamer feels he or she lacks control in their waking life.

Flying in a dream, and how effectively or poorly it’s done, relates to how much control we feel we have in our lives, and whether we are confident and able to achieve our goals.

Teeth falling out

This one is very common. If you are dreaming about your teeth or a tooth falling out then it may mean there is something in your life or about yourself that you may be insecure about.

Dreaming of a baby doesn’t literally mean you’re going to be having a baby. It often represents something new: It might be a new idea, new project at work, new development or the potential for growth in a specific area.

Food symbolizes energy, knowledge or nourishment and is directly related to our intellect, emotions and spirituality. Food can also be a manifestation of idioms like, “food for thought,” and reveal that we may be “hungry” for new information and insights.

Houses frequently represent the dreamer’s mind. Different levels or rooms may relate to difference aspects of the individual dreamer and different degrees of consciousness.

Even though these are just some common dreams essentially it is the person having the dream who can really interpret and understand the meaning behind their dream. These are just some symbols and meanings shared by dream experts, Dreams Cloud. It is up to us, the dreamers, to identify our dreams and their symbols and how they relate to our lives.
