Let’s talk about lips baby… This past year has been all about the lips. Liquid matte lipstick blew up in the beauty realm and lip trends from the 90’s have been making their way back onto the scene. I took to my beauty bag to determine the best lipsticks on the market in their respective categories and whether or not they are really worth it.
Lime Crime Matte Velvetine in Fetish
Retails for $20.00 for .088 fl oz
The perfect liquid lip is as elusive as the Loch Ness Monster. Either the formula does not dry correctly, the lipstick is too thin to give good color, or you are like me, and you cannot seem to get the product to even stay inside the lines. I ordered this Lime Crime Matte Velvetine on whim due to a bomb Black Friday sale, and boy am I glad I did. Although I paid a discounted price, I wholeheartedly believe $20 is a steal for this quality.
This liquid lipstick is vegan and cruelty-free (score!) and has the most beautiful pigmented color. The shade I ordered, Fetish, is a deep taupe-y purple that gives me serious witch vibes. It goes on smoothly and stays on for seriously forever. I can lick my lips, take sips of water, eat pizza, and this baby isn’t going anywhere. Out of the liquid lipsticks I have tried, this is by far the easiest to apply in terms of pigment and staying inside the lines. I have since bought another shade and love it as well. It should be a (lime) crime for a liquid lip to be this good! Badass #WorthIt.
Lancome Juicy Tubes in Simmer
Retails for $19.00 for .5 fl oz
Gloss has been pushed to back seat by matte lipstick for years now, but sometimes a glossy lip really cannot be beat. Lancome’s line of Juicy Tubes has every color our 90’s and 00’s hearts long for. This specific shade, Simmer, is beyond beautiful. It’s a pinky nude with a champagne shimmer that gives the perfect shiny pout. The shade has looked good on every skin tone of every person I have lent it to, and that versatility is so rare to find in lip products.
I honestly was not sure how much I would like this product when I got it. But every time I walk out of the house wearing this gloss, I get compliments! Simmer perfectly finishes any makeup look when a bright lipstick seems like a little too much. Gloss is coming back everyone, and high-end might be the way to go. Totally #WorthIt.
The Classic Red
Kate Moss for Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in RED
Retails for $4.99 for .14 fl oz
As a former competitive cheerleader, the number of tubes of red lipstick I have gone through is embarrassingly high. Over the years, I have tried pretty much every brand out there, and this inexpensive Rimmel London lipstick is truly a miracle. The red lip is a statement that absolutely anyone can rock. It’s chic, it’s timeless, and it will never go out of style.
Years ago, I was on my way to a competition when I realized I had forgotten my lipstick. I ran to Target to pick one up, and grabbed this one because it was cheap and the color looked nice in the store swatch. Since that fateful day, I have never bought a different bright red lipstick! The color payoff is incredible, first of all. It glides on smoothly and is uber pigmented to achieve the perfect red lip. Say goodbye to high-end red lipsticks, this one’s got you covered. 100% #WorthIt.
NARS Semi Matte Lipstick in Schiap
Retails for $28.00 for .12 fl oz
As soon as I saw this product online, I had to have it. I had never paid so much for a lipstick though! I debated for a while, but finally I took the plunge and purchased Schiap. First of all, the color of this lipstick is so original. It’s not your average lip color for sure, and Sephora even describes it as “shocking pink.” I was not sure if I was even going to be able to pull this color off, but I was so surprised at how lovely it looked.
The most important thing about this lip though is how it made me feel. When I put on this lipstick, I am the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. I walk out of the house feeling like a serious #bossbabe. Something about this fuchsia formula is like magic. It makes me feel confident, put together, and ready to take on whatever life throws at me. As far as I’m concerned, the money was totally worth it. Any product with such an incredible positive effect is worth trying. And I promise, if you try it, you are going to love it. Splurge, but #WorthIt.
Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs Lip Color in Touchable Taupe
Retails for $5.99 for .15 fl oz
Let me start out by saying that of course “nude” is not the same on everyone. In searching for a perfect nude lip color, I found so many awesome colors that just really did not fit my skin tone, and so many awesome colors that fit me that would probably not fit people with other skin tones. However, in my extensive search, I found this amazing line of lipsticks by Maybelline with an incredible variety of shades so every person can rock their own nude lip.
The formula is smooth, consistently pigmented, and applies effortlessly. I am always impressed with the quality of Maybelline lipsticks for such a reasonable price! Inclusivity is key here as the line has so many different options for people with all skin tones. I was a little nervous when I purchased this product because the nude lip was not something I was familiar with, but I am so happy I took a leap of faith. Touchable Taupe turned out to be my perfect shade, but I encourage you to go out and find yours with The Buffs collection. Classic and #WorthIt.
