The first live Women’s Choice Awards is May 17th at the famous Avalon Theater in LA. Hosted by Meredith Vieira, the award show honors fierce women who passionately advocate for the empowerment of girls and women. So, it’s a pretty big deal. The three award categories this year are:
The Spotlight Award – will go to a celebrity who’s using her platform to spotlight issues affecting girls and women. Some of the powerhouses nominated are Emma Watson, Alyssa Milano, Keke Palmer, Priyanka Chopra and more!
The Shero Award – will go to a passionate activists who’s work is dedicated to the benefits of girls and women. We’re rooting for Reshma Saujani, she’s the CEO of Girls Who Code.
The Voice of Women Award – will go to a leader who’s shaping the positive portrayal of girls and women in entertainment and media. We’re definitely voting for Elaine Welteroth, EIC of Teen Vogue, for this one!
Along with these major industry awards, Sharon Stone will also be accepting the Icon Award for her lifetime achievement in film and humanitarian work off screen.
“Sharon Stone is an incredible talent and one of Hollywood’s leading ladies. But it is her admirable work off-screen that makes her our 2017 Icon Award honoree. Sharon donates her time and talent to many deserving causes. She has traveled the world to help care for the poor, the hungry, the homeless, the sick and those in need of clean water. Sharon has been on the frontlines in the fight against HIV/AIDS helping to raise hundreds of millions of dollars for amfAR. We are so honored to celebrate Sharon.” said Delia Passi, CEO of Women’s Choice Award.
Unlike other award shows, the Women’s Choice Awards are open to public voting. But the polls close tonight, so make sure to cast your vote… you might even win a new Apple TV. Go vote!
