Yoga Wake Up App Will Help You Start Your Day on the Right Side of the Bed

We all feel great after we complete a good workout or relaxing stretch routine, but the main issue we all tend to have is motivating ourselves to start, right? Well, I’ve got some good news: you don’t even have to get out of bed to do a quick yoga practice or mindful meditation – the Yoga Wake Up app is here for you.

With Yoga Wake Up, you can choose from their large catalog of Wakeups. Soothing meditations for a relaxing start to your day or a quick core routine if you want to feel the burn – they’ve got it all. What’s nice about Yoga Wake Up is that they’re all audio sequences, so all you have to do is listen. Like many apps these days, you need to purchase a subscription to take advantage of all that it has in store, but you can sign up for the 7-day free trial in order to see all that the app has to offer.

I’m going to be real here: out of the five days I used the app (I’m a Monday-Friday kinda gal), I only chose one Wakeup where I had to get out of bed. The idea of getting a good stretch in and not have to leave my bed was very appealing.

With this in mind, here’s my two cents about the app.

I loved the ‘My Wakeups’ feature. Like with your normal alarm, you can set them days in advance, and the app reminds you every night to set you alarm, too. I enjoyed the little motivational notifications following each practice as well – reminiscent of our friends at Shine Text. I think we could all use a little daily reminder that we got this, right?

What’s great about Yoga Wake Up is that they have a number of highly trained teachers and short bios so you can choose a Wakeup and teacher that interests you. Now, I don’t know if this was the choice of the teacher or the folks at the app, or just me being a music elitist, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the song choices. I felt that a lot of them didn’t flow well with the practice or were a little abrupt. Again, this is from someone who’s hyper focused on music all the time, so don’t let my opinion deter you from trying a bunch of different practices.

Another little thing to save you from future confusion: you have to keep it running in the foreground aka the last app you look at before you turn your screen off at the night or the alarm won’t go off. Seeing as I neglected to read the FAQ, I wasn’t aware of this and had to re-set it two days in a row before I realized what was happening. Whoops.

Overall, this is a great app for busy college students or those of us that are little lazy in the morning (Hi!). What can I say? I like my slow mornings. Yoga Wake Up is a great alternative to your standard alarm–especially because it promotes moving your body first thing in the morning and starting your day mindfully. I challenge you to try it for a week. You never know, it might just change your daily routine!
